I'd recommend "Anton the Dove Fancier and Other Tales of the Holocaust," by Bernard Gotfryd. It is a collection of short stories based on Gotfryd's experiences as a teen in war-torn Poland, in the 1940s, and how he survived six Nazi labor camps in Poland and Austria. The book is out of print, but is available from various outlets other than the unbusted trust owned by Jeff Bezos.

You can read a bit about his life here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Gotfryd

Gotfryd was an outspoken witness of the atrocities committed by the Third Reich in Europe, and devoted his later years to speaking about his experiences to various student and teacher groups around the New York Metropolitan area, as well as being involved with the anti-bigotry organization Facing History and Ourselves: https://www.facinghistory.org/
